Q: When will colleges reopen for in-person instruction?
A: Nearly all of the state’s public colleges and universities plan to significantly increase the number of in-person classes for the Fall 2021 academic term.
The California State University Chancellor Joseph I. Castro said the 23-campus system remains committed to returning to in-person instruction by the fall, but repopulating the campuses will depend on the availability of coronavirus vaccine and the advice of medical and public health experts.
The University of California system also is planning for a return to primarily in-person instruction across its 10 campuses this fall. However, specific plans will be announced by individual UC campuses once they coordinate with public health agencies.

The division’s Computer Support Services Team will receive a CISOA 2021 Technology Excellence Award, which annually recognizes demonstrated excellence through technological advancements by a community college.
In addition, Dr. James Temple, the college’s Vice President of Technology, who leads the IT division, will receive a 2021 Excellence in Technology Leadership Award by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, which distinguishes individuals demonstrating exemplary leadership contributions within the technology profession.
COC Information Technology Department Wins Two Tech Awards
Two awards are being given to College of the Canyons (COC)’s Information Technology (IT) department at the 2021 Virtual Technology Summit thanks to the college’s “effective transition” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
COC is slated to receive two awards from the 2021 California Community College Chief Information Systems Officers Association (CISOA) on Thursday, Feb. 11, as a response to the department’s help during the COVID-19 transition in Santa Clarita.
Transitioning COC’s operations and instructional programs to a remote format following widespread COVID-19 shutdowns of in-person education was made possible thanks partially to the IT department.

The Associated Students of UC Riverside (ASUCR) is composed of many different branches, committees and individuals that help the student government serve the campus population. One of the largest committees is Lobby Corps, which functions under the ASUCR Office of External Affairs; it is 1 of 4 committees that is overseen by the vice president of external affairs and focuses on community organizing and outreach to public officials in the Riverside community. According to second-year political science major Lizette Inzunza, who is the government relations director of the organization, Lobby Corps works to “engage UCR undergrad students in legislative advocacy, lobbying efforts and systemwide campaigns in order to address student and community systemwide issues and all the barriers we face on a local, state and national level.”
