Tuesday, May 4, 2021 California Senate Bill 642 (“SB 642”) cleared the California Senate Health Committee on April 28, 2021. If enacted, SB 642 would, among other things, significantly impact management and governance rules applicable to California medical practices.      Overview of SB 642 SB 642’s general theme is the preservation of independent clinical judgment by physicians, building on California’s current prohibitions on the corporate practice of medicine and Attorney General oversight of certain health care transactions. As presently drafted, SB 642 would: Prohibit hospitals from imposing certain policy and practice limitations on their medical staffs;   Impose limitations on certain contractual arrangements between professional medical corporations and entities owned by non-physicians, such as corporations and private equity investors; and

California Senate Health Committee hears testimony on first batch of bills Sydney Kurle | Mar 11, 2021 Share this: The California Senate Committee on Health heard its first batch of testimony on bills on Wednesday. These bills were on topics like expanding coverage through Medi-Cal, overdose prevention and workforce development.  Here are the two bills State of Reform is watching from the four-hour long hearing.     A bill, SB 56, sponsored by Sen. Maria Elena Durazo would extend eligibility for full-scope Medi-Cal benefits to undocumented adults 65 and older who would otherwise be eligible for benefits if not for their immigration status. This bill would go into effect beginning July 1, 2022.
