Updated: 12:22 PM PDT Apr 22, 2021 KCRA Staff California s Golden State Stimulus payments have begun going out for eligible people in the state who have already filed their tax returns and many others can expect theirs after filing their taxes. Some other Californians, like those who receive SSI benefits, can expect payments later this summer. About 5.7 million people qualify for the $600 payments aimed at low-income Californians. The money comes from a bill that Gov. Gavin Newsom signed into law earlier this year. Here s what you should know about the $600 stimulus payments. When will I receive a $600 California stimulus payment? If you filed your 2020 tax return between Jan. 1 and March 1, 2021, those payments began to go out on April 15, according to the Franchise Tax Board. Those receiving a paper check by mail should expect to get them in four to six weeks. Those who filed their returns on or after March 2, can check this website for expected wait times.

The San Diego Unified School District will welcome children back into its classrooms today. When it does, expect the number of kids entering foster care to jump dramatically.
According to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan, the county saw a “drastic decrease” in calls to its child abuse hotline while schools were closed. This was not because the abuse or neglect stopped. It’s because teachers, counselors and other legally mandated reporters no longer had eyes and ears on the children.
