On December 16, 2020, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights (OCR), announced that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) will disallow $200 million in federal Medi-Cal funding next quarter due to California’s refusal to stop imposing abortion coverage mandates on health plans and issuers. Each quarter CMS will disallow another $200 million in Medicaid Federal Financial Participation funds until California abandons its abortion coverage mandate. HHS states that its enforcement action is consistent with legal precedent regarding the federal government’s authority to impose conditions on funds.
Some people have gone in for treatment or testing, only to get a large bill in the mail a few weeks later. One of them was Melissa Chalmers. I had a fever, I couldn t breath, my chest hurt, I was coughing, said Chalmers about her symptoms when she went in for a COVID-19 test at the start of the pandemic. I felt miserable.
A bill showed up a few weeks later and because she tested negative, she was on the hook for the charges. My concern is the lack of visibility into if you re going to have to pay, said Chalmers.

With its policy that forces even Christians to fund abortions President Donald Trump will withhold $200 million in Medicaid funds from the state of California.
In a report by Life News, California essentially forces Christians and even churches to fund abortions with their requirement in private health insurance plans. In the state, private health care plans should pay for abortion regardless if the one paying it is pro-life or if abortion is contrary to what their faith dictates.

WASHINGTON (CNS) Two U.S. bishops’ committees said Dec. 17 they “strongly commend” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for taking “corrective action” against a Vermont medical center and the state of California for violating federal conscience protection laws when it comes to abortion.
In the first case, HHS’s Office for Civil Rights said Dec. 16 it has referred the University of Vermont Medical Center to the Department of Justice for a lawsuit over forcing a nurse to assist in an abortion procedure in violation of the nurse’s conscience rights.
