The deep-sea has a lot of weird shit in it. Well, weird to us, I suppose, because we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s down there, but maybe not weird to whatever’s down there, because they’re down there. We’re probably weird to them. We don’t generally see the creatures of the deep sea, though, because they’re so deep. Every now and then, however, something washes up on a beach somewhere that drives home the fact that we’re sharing our planet with creatures that look like aliens. Take, for example, the deep-sea anglerfish that washed up in Laguna Beach in early May.
An unusual fish with teeth as sharp as glass and a body shaped like a football washed ashore on a California beach last week. The black coloured creature with its gaping mouth laid on the sand on the shore of Crystal Cove State Park s Marine Protected Area in Laguna Beach last Friday. The park shared images of the fish on social media and identified it as being most likely the Pacific Football Fish. To see an actual angler fish intact is very rare and it is unknown how or why the fish ended up on the shore, reads the Facebook post.

But first: You may not know Art Gensler s name, but you certainly know his firm s buildings. The San Francisco architect designed the prototype for the Apple store, working alongside Steve Jobs, and the first 100 stores. He also designed the boarding area at the new United Airlines terminal at San Francisco International Airport, the west wing at San Francisco s Moscone Center, and the terminal at Mineta San Jose International Airport. His firm, with 46 offices housing 4,000 employees in 14 countries, also designed the Shanghai Tower, the second-tallest building in the world. Gensler died this week at 85, the San Francisco Chronicle reports, telling the story of how this regular guy built his husband-and-wife firm into a global powerhouse.

The teen bear in Banning. (Banning Police Department)
BANNING, CA A teenage black bear, whose presence in Banning Friday night caused a ruckus, hasn t been spotted since at least not as far as the California Department of Fish & Wildlife has heard. We haven t received any calls, explained CDFW Lt. Supervisor Kyle Chang.
Speaking by phone Tuesday morning, Chang said his agency got word Friday night from the Banning Police Department about the bear officers had been chasing near the 900 block of Dorothy Anna Drive.
Subscribe They asked for help because there were people out, and there was concern for public safety, said Chang, who was supposed to be off Friday night but the bear call changed all that.
