Bill Would Require Public Disclosure of Individual Workplaces With COVID Outbreaks
The California State Assemblyâs Labor and Employment Committee voted Thursday to forward a bill that would require the California Department of Public Health to post workplace COVID-19 outbreaks on its website.
Five members of the committee, all Democrats, voted yes on Assembly Bill 654, with two Republican assemblymembers voting no.
The bill expands on earlier legislation that mandated that the state post information online about outbreaks by industry, without naming employers. The new bill would go further, requiring state health officials to allow the public to track COVID-19 outbreaks by individual workplace.

The Labor Department moved Thursday to end two rules established under the Trump administration that reduced federal labor protections for millions of workers.
The two rules both dealt with classifications of workers as employees or independent contractors, a distinction that governs whether an employer is required to provide benefits, including health care.
In a statement, the agency said it was proposing changes to two rules instituted under the previous administration: the Independent Contractor Final Rule, passed by the agency just days before President Biden

“The Wage and Hour Division’s mission is to protect and respect the rights of workers. Rescinding these rules would strengthen protections for workers, including the essential frontline workers who have done so much during these challenging times,” a Labor Department spokesperson said.
Gov. Newsom delivers State of the State address amid intensifying recall effort

Share: Normal was never good enough. Normal accepts inequity, Newsom said.
Newsom delivered the address from Dodger Stadium, timed to coincide with evening news broadcasts that showed him surrounded by 56,000 empty seats representing roughly all of the people in California who have died of COVID-19.
It was a critical speech because Newsom faces a likely recall election later this year, fueled by widespread anger over his handling of the pandemic in the nation s most populated state.
Even before the speech began, Republican challenger Kevin Faulconer criticized Newsom, saying the governor will say anything to save his political career.
