NORTH COUNTY
Two drivers sustained life-threatening injuries Saturday afternoon in Valley Center when the man behind the wheel of a large pickup lost control of his truck and collided head-on with a car, authorities said Monday.
The incident happened about 1:15 p.m. on Valley Center Road north of Lilac Road when a 56-year-old Valley Center man lost control of his 2008 Ford F-450 while head south, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Juan Escobar.
The truck first veered off the right side of the road and struck a fire hydrant, then veered back across the southbound lanes and hit two trees in the center divider, Escobar said in a news release. It then continued into oncoming northbound traffic and collided head on with a 2018 Lexus ES350.
