Central Valley Meat Company in Hanford cited, facing fines for lack of COVID-19 safety measures

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) The Central Valley Meat Company in Hanford was cited and could face up to $50,000 in fines for not protecting their workers from COVID-19, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CalOSHA) said on Wednesday. CalOSHA claims the company did not notify employees of potential COVID-19 exposure and failed to supply face coverings for workers. The department said it s been investigating the meat company since April 29 after receiving complaints. It issued formal citations on December 11. Central Valley Meat Company is one of eight employers the state has cited for violations. In May, employees at the facility spoke to Action News, calling for safer conditions and voicing their frustrations with the company after over 100 workers contracted the virus.

Construction Worker Dies in Orange When Swimming Pool Hole Collapses Firefighters have recovered the body of a construction worker who died when a wall of dirt collapsed and buried him while he was excavating a backyard swimming pool site in the City of Orange, California. Sgt. Dennis Breckner of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as Luciano Gonzalez Munoz. Breckner told The Epoch Times that Munoz, 45, was a resident of Puebla, Mexico. Munoz was part of a construction team digging the hole on Dec. 19 when a wall of soil piled on top of the hole collapsed on top of him around 10:52 a.m., covering him up to his neck and rendering him immobile. A second wall collapsed into the hole soon after, burying him and causing his death.
