US Logs Highest Single-Day CCP Virus Death Toll of Nearly 4,000 People
The United States reported that almost 4,000 people died on Jan. 6 from COVID-19 or related complications, a single-day record since the pandemic first emerged and as the number of infections has jumped in recent weeks.
U.S. officials said a total of 3,963 people died that day from the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, a new high that is believed to be influenced by the recent holiday gatherings.
The country has been averaging 216,736 new daily cases over the past week. Deaths are averaging more than 2,600 a day, and a new record of 132,476 patients are currently hospitalized, according to data from the COVID Tracking Project (CTP).

A person is dying every 8 minutes from COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, officials warned on Thursday as the region again faced a double-digit rise in new daily cases. According to the county health department, LA saw 11,841 new cases reported on Wednesday, and 258 deaths.
In total, LA has seen over 11,320 deaths over the last 10 months. Emergency services have been directed to ration oxygen supply and paramedics were advised to avoid bringing patients who have little chance of resuscitation to hospitals.

California health authorities reported a record two-day total of 1042 coronavirus deaths on Thursday, as hospitals prepare for the possibility of rationing care.
The state Department of Public Health s website listed 583 new deaths, a day after 459 deaths. The previous two-day record total was 1013 deaths at the end of December.
California s death toll since the start of the pandemic rose to 28,045.
Amid the unprecendented caseloads, hospitals are trying to prepare for the possibility that they may have to ration care for lack of staff and beds.
