California Grocers Association sues San Jose and Daly City for giving workers hazard pay

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The California Grocers Association is suing the cities of San Jose and Daly City over hazard pay ordinances for grocery workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
The lawsuits filed on Friday call the extra pay mandates in each city illegal.
Last month San Jose mandated a $3 an hour pay boost for its grocery workers and in Daly City a similar ordinance was passed unanimously this week by the city council to boost workers pay $5 an hour.
Under the red tier, restaurants and movie theaters will be able to reopen indoors at 25% capacity, while gyms can reopen indoors at 10% capacity. Museums may also resume indoor operations at 25% capacity.
California officials are contemplating what things will look like in the nation's most populous state once millions of people are vaccinated and they move to phase out restrictions on gatherings and businesses that have altered life for a year.
The Kroger Co. announced today it is closing three Los Angeles stores following the City Council's vote on March 3 to approve an ordinance that requires large grocery and pharmacy retailers to offer employees an additional $5 per hour in hazard pay amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
