Coalition Challenges Georgia s Jon Ossoff on Democrats Catholic Problem

16 Dec 2020 The Catholic Coalition Against Religious Tests for Office has challenged Georgia Senate hopeful Jon Ossoff to renounce the anti-Catholic bias of his party’s leadership. “John Ossoff must address the Democrat Party’s Catholic problem,” said Coalition leader Ed Martin Wednesday. “Vice President Biden’s nomination of anti-Catholic California Attorney General Becerra to his cabinet is only the most recent example of anti-Catholic bias,” Mr. Martin said. “But because the media always gives a free ride to Democratic Party candidates citizens who meet Ossoff on the campaign trail must do the media’s job.” Catholic groups have been up in arms over Mr. Biden’s choice of “pro-abortion zealot” Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services, calling for all-out opposition to the appointment.

LA councilman says DA s proposed sentencing policy missed the mark

LA councilman says DA s proposed sentencing policy missed the mark Published  article LOS ANGELES - Councilman Paul Koretz filed a resolution on Tuesday in opposition of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón s recent directive to remove sentence enhancements, particularly when prosecuting hate crimes.   Gascón issued a set of special directives when he was sworn into office on Dec. 7 designed to reduce recidivism and the number of people incarcerated. One directive eliminated all sentence enhancements. While many of his special directives are well-intentioned, I believe he missed the mark when he eliminated special enhancements for hate crimes being prosecuted in the county, Koretz said.

Biden chooses retired general Lloyd Austin as defense secretary: sources

6 Min Read WASHINGTON/WILMINGTON, Del. (Reuters) - President-elect Joe Biden has chosen retired General Lloyd Austin, who oversaw U.S. forces in the Middle East under President Barack Obama, to be his defense secretary, two people familiar with the decision said on Monday. Austin, who would be the first Black U.S. secretary of defense, was a surprise pick over Michele Flournoy, a former top Defense Department official who was considered the leading contender for the job. Flournoy would have been the first woman defense secretary. The news was first reported by Politico. Austin, who retired in 2016, will need a waiver from Congress since it has been less than the required seven years since he served. He would be the second Pentagon chief in four years to need a waiver, after President Donald Trump picked James Mattis, a retired Marine general, to be his first defense secretary.

California Court Reviews Strip Club s Lockdown Exemption As Shuttered Churches Seethe On 12/16/20 at 12:04 PM EST A California court is scheduled to review an order exempting strip clubs from coronavirus restrictions in San Diego on Wednesday. San Diego Superior Court Judge Joel R. Wohlfeil granted Pacers Showgirls International and Cheetahs Gentlemen s Club injunction on November 6 after they sued San Diego County in October. He ruled adult live entertainment was constitutionally protected speech under the first amendment and stated the harm to the two businesses would be greater than the harm done to the government. However, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra reportedly issued a cease and desist letter to the two clubs on December 11 stating the strip clubs violated the state s stay-at-home policy.
