The filmmaker who turned Christopher Reeve into ‘Superman’ and Mel Gibson and Danny Glover into cop buddies in ‘Lethal Weapon’ has died.
Mel Gibson, star of four “Lethal Weapon” movies, all directed by Donner, as well as the director’s “Conspiracy Theory” and “Maverick,” released a statement Monday: “Donner! My friend, my mentor. Oh, the things I learned from him! He undercut his own talent and greatness with a huge chunk of humility referring to himself as ‘merely a traffic cop.’ He left his ego at the door and required that of others. He was magnanimous of heart and soul, which he liberally gave to all who knew him.”

Born Richard D. Schwartzberg in New York City, Donner’s credits also include Scrooged, The Goonies, Ladyhawke, The Omen, and Conspiracy Theory.
His first film as a director was Rat Pack comedy Salt and Pepper in 1968.
Before that, he spent 18 years overseeing episodes of TV shows like The Loretta Young Show, Wanted: Dead or Alive, The Rifleman, and Have Gun – Will Travel.

Military firing range named after Vidya Balan in Kashmir
In recognition of Vidya Balan s phenomenal contribution to Indian cinema, the Indian Army has recently named one of its firing ranges after the actor. The Vidya Balan Firing Range is located in Gulmarg, Kashmir. Earlier this year, Vidya along with her husband Siddharth Roy Kapur had even attended the Gulmarg Winter Festival organised by the Indian Army. Several social media users have shared the same news on Instagram and Twitter. However, Vidya has not posted anything about it yet.
Also, a few days ago, it was announced that she has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the governing body behind the Oscars.

At the time, the rules of the Academy dictated that the producer of the winning film receive the Oscar.
However, in recognition of his groundbreaking work on Mighty Joe Young and King Kong (1933) 16-years earlier, producer and story creator Merian C. Cooper presented the trophy to O Brien.
