2 of Lehigh Valley’s biggest districts weigh bringing elementary students back for more days

The Bethlehem and Easton area school districts are considering bringing elementary students back for more full-time instruction this spring.
Bethlehem is studying returning hybrid K-5 students to in-person instruction five days a week, starting April 11, the start of the fourth marking period, Superintendent Joseph Roy said in a video message sent Monday to district parents.
Easton is taking a different sort of approach, floating the idea of returning K-2 students four days a week once Northampton County drops to moderate spread of the coronavirus for two consecutive weeks, according to a presentation Superintendent David Piperato made to the school board last week.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Since late January, the Academy of Pediatrics said about 2.68 million kids in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Academy of Pediatrics said kids represent 12.7% of all cases in the U.S. Pediatrician Dr. Tory Caudle with Sweetgrass Pediatrics says as we see more nationwide cases of the virus as a whole we will continue to see more cases involving kids.

Federal law requires states to update their plans for improving Medicaid health care quality at least every three years.
Georgia, however, published its most recent quality plan in February 2016. It’s at least two years out of date.
The guidelines aim to ensure members in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (known as PeachCare in Georgia) get quality health care and state taxpayers get a good return on their investment.
“With the large state investment in Medicaid, the state should have the information it needs to hold the contracted organizations accountable and ensure they are best serving the needs of enrollees,” said Laura Harker, senior policy analyst at Georgia Budget and Policy Institute.
