Amritsar (Punjab) [India], April 13 (ANI): A large number of devotees paid a visit to Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar on Tuesday and took a holy dip in the sarovar on the occasion of Baisakhi, the harvest festival celebrated in Punjab.
On April 12, the Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh had called upon the people not to venture out of their homes to celebrate Baisakhi with the traditional fervour and gaiety but to stay at home, for their own safety and that of their children as well as the state and the nation.

“Vaisakhi is one of the most important times of the year for Albertans of Sikh heritage. Also known as Baisakhi, it marks the beginning of the new year for Hindus and holds great significance for Buddhists and many people from India. Not only does it mark the beginning of the Punjabi new year, it also celebrates the creation of the Khalsa Panth by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the 10th Guru. This momentous occasion marked the birth of Sikhism as a collective faith.
âBaisakhi: Revelation of the Khalsaâ

In 1699, Baisakhi Day, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib founded the Khalsa Panth at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, the blessed fort of uncut hair, however more than two hundred years of preparation went into the creation of Khalsa. The journey from Kartarpur Sahib to Anandpur Sahib was full of challenges and difficulties. On the day of inauguration of Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh Sahib empowered and inspired the people and declared to the world that the Khalsa has born. It will never back down and will stand against all forms of oppression as a collective force. Guru Sahib created warriors just like himself. The world had never seen such a model where a institution of Saint-Warrior was build out of the word of the Guru.

For the first time, farmers organised a “Kisan Conference” on the occasion of Baisakhi at Talwandi Sabo.
BKU Ekta-Ugrahan president Joginder Singh Ugrahan announced that he would continue his struggle for the rollback of ‘black’ agricultural laws introduced by the Narendra Modi government and “complete liberation from the imperialist plunder of the agricultural sector”.
He also announced that on April 21 a large convoy of thousands of farmers, youth and women from all over the state would again march towards Delhi under the leadership of union general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan and Jhanda Singh Jethuke.
