Mumbai: Residents breathe easy as Aadharwadi dumping ground shuts down Around four lakh residents staying near Aadharwadi dumping ground in Kalyan will breathe fresh air. The residents were complaining about the polluted air and health related issues due to the smoke from the dumping ground for the last 37 years. The landfill was closed following the zero garbage programme initiated by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation a year ago. After the Aadharwadi dumping ground in Kalyan was completely closed for dumping waste on May 25, 2021, on Wednesday Vijay Suryanvanshi, Municipal Commissioner, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation visited the dumping ground along with Ramdas Kokare, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, solid waste management, KDMC. It was announced that the waste in the ground will be segregated. Further the commissioner announced that the dumping ground will be beautified into a garden, cycling and walking track.

Kalyan: KDMC collects over Rs 3 lakh as fine from citizens violating COVID norms - The Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) continued its action against citizens roaming in public places without mask and collected over Rs.3 lakh as fines in the last 5 days. Around Rs 3.46 lakh was recovered as fine by the KDMC in the last five days, during the special drive to keep check on citizens commuting without masks. The above mentioned amount was recovered from a total of 693 people within malls, markets, general stores and other public areas located in wards of the Kalyan-Dombivli area, said civic officials. The marshals have been deployed in public places in each of the wards to keep strict vigil on citizens violating Covid norms. During last week too, KDMC had recovered around Rs 4 lakh of fine during a similar drive, added the official.

Kalyan: KDMC initiates drive against dangerous structures and encroachments The Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) will keep a strict vigil on dangerous structures and encroachments on footpaths in the twin city. The KDMC has initiated a special drive against both encroached footpaths and dangerous structures. According to the KDMC official, the demolition drive against the most dangerous structures in Kalyan has already started. As of now the civic body has demolished around 30 such structures, consisting most of structures which were listed under most dangerous category. A total of 471 dangerous structures in Kalyan-Dombivli were listed following the structural audit by the civic body. Most of these structures were given warning notices several times, in order to vacate their buildings and to avoid any untoward incidents, since last 2-3 years.
