According to the DEA, “The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue.” Locally, a drug take back event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Holzer Meigs Emergency Department, 41861 Pomeroy Pike, Pomeroy, as a collaborative effort between Holzer Health System, Meigs County Prevention Coalition and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office. In Gallia County, the drug take back event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Holzer Center for Cancer Care parking area, 100 Jackson Pike, Gallipolis. The event is a collaborative effort between Holzer Health System, Gallia County Citizens for Prevention and Recovery and the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.

Ruane sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole Ruane GALLIPOLIS, Ohio Gallia County Prosecuting Attorney Jason D. Holdren announces that Joyceann Louise Ruane, age 25, of Crown City, Ohio, and formerly of Ashtabula County, Ohio, was sentenced Thursday in the Gallia County Common Pleas Court. According to a news release from Holdren’s office, Judge Margaret Evans sentenced Ruane to a prison term of life in prison, without the possibility of parole for the murder of her 16-month-old child. On December 17, 2020, Ruane pled guilty to Aggravated Murder, with a firearm specification, a Special Category Felony; and Having Weapons while under Disability, a Felony of the Third Degree, Holdren’s office reported.

Chester woman arrested on drug trafficking charge Staff Report Honaker CHESTER A Chester woman is facing drug charges after a search warrant of a residence on Saturday night. In an news release, Meigs County Sheriff Keith O. Wood reported that in the late-night hours of Saturday, March 6, agents with the Gallia-Meigs Major Crimes Task Force as well as deputies with his office and officers with the Middleport and Syracuse Police Departments executed a search warrant at 36380 New Hope Road in Chester after a long investigation into the alleged trafficking of illegal narcotics coming from the residence. Deputies were able to obtain probable cause for the search warrant earlier in the evening and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. According to Task Force Agents, when entry was made into the residence multiple subjects were found to be inside. All subjects were detained at this time and secured while a search of the residence took place.
