Among Mary Jo Rett’s favorite photos of her late daughter, Grace, is an image from the College of the Holy Cross bookstore.
It was an orientation day and Mary Jo snapped the photo from behind Grace, she recalled Thursday morning, capturing a shirt in the Holy Cross signature purple, but also a drawstring bag strapped to her back, bearing the name of Our Lady of the Valley Regional School in Uxbridge.
The day many Rhode Islanders dreaded is fast approaching. Opening day in the Worcester, Massachusetts, home of the wandering, smiley-face-logoed WooSox, is scheduled for May 11.
This summer, there will be a PawSox-shaped hole at their former home in McCoy Stadium, which spent the winter as a COVID-19 testing site.
Over the last couple of years in Worcester, Rhode Islanders have seen glimpses of the alternate timeline under which Pawtucket kept the team and consummated the ballpark construction plan that roiled the State House on and off for four years.
If Worcester s experience is any guide, it may not have been all peanuts and cracker jack.

The Cantor Art Gallery and Department of Visual Arts at Holy Cross are honored to present Metanoia, an exhibition of the work of studio art majors from the College of the Holy Cross. Throughout their senior year, the students have participated in a concentration seminar, a rigorous capstone experience in which they developed their artistic practice through independent work and experimentation. During this time, students worked closely with studio faculty to find their individual voice, develop, and present in this exhibition a cohesive body of work.
