Arthur Johnson
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, friend, community lawyer and activist
Arthur L. Johnson, a/k/a “Mr. JP” died peacefully at his home in Jamaica Plain on March 28.
Born in Toledo, Ohio, on September 17, 1946, Arthur was the oldest of Edith Dooley Johnson and William Johnson’s six sons. He graduated in 1964 from St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, Ohio and in 1968 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester where he was editor of the campus newspaper and participated on the varsity tennis team.
He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1970 and was stationed on a destroyer off the coast of Vietnam. When he returned, Arthur was granted an honorable discharge from the Navy as a conscientious objector to the war in Vietnam.

A funeral took place March 31 for Joseph “Rick” J. Ryglicki, 73, of North Bergen. He passed away on a bright Friday afternoon at home surrounded by his loving family. Born April 12, 1947 in Teaneck, New Jersey, he was the son of the late John Ryglicki and Wanda (Walasek) Ryglicki. Joseph, or Rick, as he was affectionately known to his friends and family, is survived by his beloved wife Frances Mansfield. Devoted father to Jonathan M. Ryglicki and his wife Amanda, and Jason M. Ryglicki, J.M.C. and his wife, Elizabeth. Loving grandfather to Willa and Harrison. Dearest brother to Walter P. Ryglicki. Rick also survived by his niece Haley Wargacki, and his nephews David Ryglicki, David Mansfield, and Robert Mansfield. He would consider, and be considered, family to many more. Rick was an alumnus of St. Peter’s Preparatory School ’64, and the College of the Holy Cross ’68 before enlisting in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he attended

On the heels of a $3.8 million settlement for private school students with disabilities in Massachusetts for the state’s failure to comply with provisions of the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that require provision of equitable, publicly funded special education services to students in private schools, a Pioneer Institute study finds that two states and three school districts around the country for which data are available also appear to be out of compliance.

RI Day of Portugal Committee awards $6,000 in scholarships
PROVIDENCE – The Day of Portugal and Portuguese Heritage in Rhode Island recently awarded six scholarships to Portuguese-American students to help them achieve their post-secondary education goals.
The $1,000 scholarships were awarded to students who applied and demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to completing an approved course of study.
