COVID-19 vaccine first doses available at Stock Island food pantry

The Monroe County Department of Health, working with The College of the Florida Keys and others, will administer first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at numerous locations in the coming week. On Monday, May 10, the vaccine will be available at the S.O.S. Foundation’s Stock Island Food Pantry from 4 to 6 p.m. The Food Pantry is located at 5640 Maloney Ave. Interested individuals must show proof of age, but no appointment, identification or payment is required. Shots will be given to any unvaccinated adult on a first-come, first-served basis, according to event organizers. Wednesday through Friday, doses will be available at Big Pine United Methodist Church, from noon to 8 p.m. Appointments are required and can be made at http://www. myvaccine.fl.gov.

CFK offers dual enrollment

The College of the Florida Keys is holding several virtual events for Monroe County high school students and their parents/guardians to learn more about its dual enrollment and early college opportunities. Through both programs, high school students can simultaneously earn college and high school credits at no cost to the student. There will be events at Key West High School at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, and Marathon High School and Coral Shores High School at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12. A home schools event will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13. Interested students and parents can sign up for a virtual information event specific to their high school by visiting the college’s website at CFK.edu/DE. CFK to host in-person graduation

The College of the Florida Keys will hold its sixty-second Commencement Exercises for the spring class of 2021 in an outdoor ceremony beside the Gulf of Mexico on the Key West Campus on Friday night. Sixty-nine graduates will walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. The college expects to award more than 150 bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, and certificates to the spring class of 2021. Graduation ceremony attendance will be limited to ticketed guests. The event will be streamed live to reach a broader audience on the College’s Facebook page at facebook.com/TheCollegeoftheFloridaKeys. Monroe County Mayor Michelle Coldiron will deliver the Keynote Address to the class. Madison Nasser, who earned an Associate in Science in Nursing, will present the Student Address. The graduates will also hear from the 2021 Distinguished Alumnus, Captain Andrew Tipler, a 2003 graduate of the Marine Engineering, Management, and Seamanship program.
