The University has named the multi-award winning actress and director the dean of its College of Fine Arts.
Although she is the recipient of honorary doctorate degrees she is one of a few deans without a postgraduate degree.
As dean, she will focus on modernising the curriculum and expanding the school’s enrollment.
On 12 May 2021, Howard University named multi-award winning actress and director Phylicia Rashad as dean of its College of Fine Arts.

Phylicia Rashad, best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on The Cosby Show, can now add university dean to her list of career accomplishments.
The Washington Post, the school announced Wednesday the multi-award winning actress and director will be dean of her alma mater Howard University’s College of Fine Arts.
Years before Rashad began her acting career, she was a theater acting major at Howard and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts in 1970.

An award-winning actress who played a doctor on a sitcom that spent five consecutive seasons as television s number-one rated show has been appointed as dean of Howard University s College of Fine Arts. Actress, Phylicia Rashad is now a Dean at the very university she graduated from in 1970, CNN reports.
Brimming with enthusiasm for her new role, Rashad issued a statement saying, It is a privilege to serve in this capacity and to work with the Howard University administration, faculty and students in reestablishing the College of Fine Arts.

For me, since I was interested in emergency medicine… it didn t make me question it at all, said Joseph Demirjian, a graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine. I was always interested in being there for patients at their worst of the worst.
