One of the many new terms that has entered the average American’s vocabulary since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic is “contact tracing.” While quick to the lips of many public health experts, what contact tracing actually is, and why it plays a critical role in stemming the tide of disease transmission, warrants an explanation for the rest of us.
“Contact tracing is not new,” says Hannah Emily Landsberg (Sargent’12, SPH’13), director of case management and contact tracing for Boston University Healthway, “but a lot of people are hearing about it for the first time.”
Contact tracing involves tracking down anyone who might have been exposed to an infectious disease through close contact with someone infected. The goal is to identify exposed people as soon as possible and to get them into quarantine before they potentially become infectious themselves, thereby stemming the spread of the disease within a population. KARACHI: Reflecting his personality, his past experiences and his fond memories, Imran Ahmad’s initial fascination with time and space finally combines the varied character traits in his work, according to the artist, as quoted by the Koel Gallery, where his latest solo exhibition titled ‘2+2=5’ is running until December 16.
“Dots, lines and tones vigorously scratch the metal to construct images from the conscious and the subconscious, and the pleasure of mark-making, with oozing strength and energy, leaves me with abstraction narrating long stories with only a stroke. At the same time, a small word illustrated with thousands of lines.”

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 13) Bright, colorful floats, festive performances, and beautiful fireworks won t be gracing the University of the Philippines Diliman campus this December, as it has cancelled its annual Lantern Parade this year.
In a memorandum posted on its official Facebook page, the UPD Office of the Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs (OVCCA) said there will be a simple program held this December 18 in commemoration and reflection of 2020, which saw the country overwhelmed by tragedy after tragedy.
Among those cited are the Taal Volcano s eruption this January, the COVID-19 pandemic beginning March, and the back-to-back typhoons which battered the country this November.
