Detroit Tigers pitcher and former Gators ace Alex Faedo will miss the 2021 MLB season after undergoing surgery.
Faedo underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last December, effectively sidelining him for the 2021 season.
He won the College World Series Most Outstanding Player and helped Florida win its first title in school history in 2017. That year, Faedo was drafted by the Tigers in the first round of the MLB Draft. He spent two years in their farm system after sitting out in 2017, and was named to the Tigers’ 40-man roster at the end of last season.
Faedo recently discussed his surgery, along with the obstacles that he has faced with rehabbing and returning to top form.

AUBURN, Ala. Auburn Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award winner Tracy Rocker is returning as its defensive line coach, Tigers’ head coach Bryan Harsin announced Thursday. Rocker, who coached the defensive line at Auburn from 2009-10, winning a national championship with the Tigers in 2010, has 20-plus years of experience coaching collegiately and professionally.
“Tracy Rocker is one of Auburn’s all-time great players and has a wealth of experience coaching and in the Southeastern Conference,” Harsin said. “He understands what a championship team looks like and knows what it takes to be successful at the highest level. We’re excited to welcome back Tracy to the Auburn family.”
