Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Sunday announced that his ministry has started the process to formulate an education policy for Pakistan.
Taking to Twitter, the minister said that while the government had taken several initiatives on coming up with a single national curriculum for the whole country, an education policy is necessary . So on my direction a process has been started by the Ministry of Education which includes widespread consultation. All suggestions welcome, he said.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and his government have repeatedly emphasised on the need for a uniform education curriculum across the country to eliminate the class divide among students.

The provincial cabinet recently approved the Single National Curriculum (SNC) for Punjab, following which Minister for Schools Education Dr Murad Raas announced that the new curriculum would be implemented in phases starting from school year 2021.
He also said that SNC implementation is a national responsibility and it was not designed to limit the number of organizations or stakeholders but to bring them under a framework. The federal government had announced to implement a uniform curriculum for public and private schools across the country.

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) on Thursday allowed educational institutes which do not have the facility of online teaching to call students one day a week for assigning school work.
The government, on November 23, had ordered the closure of all educational institutions across the country from November 26 till January 10 next year and directed for holding online classes until December 24 to reduce the chances of students being infected during the second wave of the coronavirus, which global as well as local experts fear, worsens during the winter season.

ISLAMABAD: The Single National Curriculum (SNC), which generated a national debate earlier in the year, is all set to be implemented in the coming academic session and the government has ordered the publication of textbooks for the purpose.
“The SNC has been prepared and now provincial governments have been requested to get the books published as per their requirements,” Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood told
Dawn on Monday. He said new books based on SNC would be introduced at the start of the new academic session.
