A legal battle over Gov. Ron DeSantis’ July 30 executive order seeking to block local school districts from requiring students to wear masks will move forward Thursday.
The Biden administration this week offered federal financial support to Florida school districts defying Gov. Ron DeSantis’ ban on mask mandates as the coronavirus surges in the state, according to reports.
Despite pressure from the state, Broward schools say they will continue to require that students wear masks because wavering would threaten their health and violate scientific evidence on COVID-19, the district says.
“I say to these governors: Please help. But if you aren’t going to help, at least get out of the way,” Biden said earlier this month. “The people are trying to do the right thing. Use your power to save lives.”
