School board member Tom Edwards said he is comfortable with making masks optional. The new policy applies to anyone on school grounds, regardless of vaccination status.  “If you’re an adult or a child that’s old enough to be vaccinated and you choose not to be vaccinated, and you choose not to wear a mask and you get sick, that seems to be more your responsibility than someone else’s,” Edwards said. “If it looks to become a problem, you can have an emergency mask policy if you needed it.” The Centers for Disease Control updated its guidance for schools on July 9, recommending that unvaccinated people should continue to wear masks indoors. That would include all children under the age of 12 since none of the current vaccines are approved for them yet.
