ALEXANDRIA – Northwestern State University has been selected to host the Louisiana Board of Regents LaSTEM Network Center for Region 6. The center will be housed in Alexandria at NSU’s Cenla Campus.
The Louisiana Regional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Network will be a system of STEM leadership entities strategically positioned across Louisiana, similar to the Regional Labor Market Areas (RLMAs) identified by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, whereby communities, parishes, multi-parish regions and the State can achieve improved STEM education, opportunity and advancement.
It is expected and hoped that some current and developing STEM activities will span one or more STEM Regions. Regions will share information, work together and be interconnected by coordination of resources which can also provide a gateway to other networks and initiatives. LOS ANGELES, Jan. 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ ECMC Foundation announced today the launch of the Catalyzing Transfer Initiative (CTI), a national shared learning and collaboration effort between high-impact non-profit organizations that aims to build, manage, and activate new ways to increase successful transfer of postsecondary credits and timely bachelor degree completion among marginalized racial and ethnic groups.

Quarantines Leave Schools Scrambling for Substitute Teachers

Josephine Brewington has been a substitute teacher in suburban Beech Grove, Indiana, for a decade, but her job has grown in importance as her school district scrambles to supervise pupils whose teachers are sick, quarantining or caring for others.
“We’d have teachers from the high school come over and help teach fourth graders because we didn’t have enough subs,” Brewington said of how the system has handled absences this fall. “People from the offices are helping, principals are covering classrooms it’s like everyone’s pitching in.”
