A BRADFORD man has been fined after his van was caught illegally carrying scrap metal. Richard Edwards, 40, appeared at Bradford & Keighley Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to illegally carrying and transferring waste and was fined £200. Mr Edwards, of Ackworth Street, Bowling, Bradford, was also ordered to pay £398.80 costs and a Victim Surcharge of £30. The court was told that Environmental Enforcement Officers from Bradford Council and West Yorkshire police officers were taking part in a joint vehicle stop and search exercise in Bradford South as part of Operation Steerside. They spotted a white Ford van in The Avenue, Clayton, which was being loaded up with tipped metal waste, including large white electrical goods.
The state of the land earlier this year THE landowner of a former garage has been fined after failing to remove flytipping from their land used by an operator to illegally store waste. An Untidy Land Enforcement Notice under s215 of The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 has been served at the former Yates Garage at Islands Brow in Blackbrook. Once in effect, the notice requires the landowner to remove and suitably dispose of all remaining flytipped waste within 28 days – and to remove the foil-backed insulation from the roof of the building. Failure to comply with the order would see the council look to prosecute which carries a fine of up to £1,000 as well as taking direct action to clear the land which would be recharged to the landowner.
Can you trust registered waste carriers?
A HoL member added a post earlier today, looking for someone to remove her waste.
HoL admin provided a link to previous recommendations and commented that it is wise to use a registered waste carrier.
In unexpected turn of events, Bob Ruggles added a post that cast doubt on that advice. The conversation has now been moved here to a new post so as not to derail the original post.
Bob wrote the following.
As proved on recent BBC report. being Registered is Not a Guarantee that rubbish will not be illegally Dumped. And if investigated you are the one held liable. Might be less expensive and Safer to hire a van and book a visit to Western Road , Council Tip . Where Items can be disposed of and even recycled
