Eagle County Schools responds to heightened parent interest with more transparency

Ali Longwell/alongwell@vaildaily.com For the past few months, groups of parents have been showing up at Eagle County Board of Education meetings to express their opinions and ask questions about the way the district is doing things. These parents have expressed concerns over how the district is handling COVID-19, requesting the release of mask and vaccine requirements, as well as how their kids are being taught, asking for more insight into school’s curriculum. “Sadly but true, bad policy in this district and around the country is responsible for the mental decline of our students,” said Krista Keiser, an EagleVail resident at the May 26 board meeting.

Special to the Daily Many hands make light work. Vi Brown has two very busy hands that continue to have a huge impact on how the Vail community was built. She and her late husband, Byron, moved to Vail in 1964 from Denver and never stopped moving. Those few dozen people who were already in Vail remember the Browns arriving with young son Mike in tow to West Vail, where only about five homes were built. Byron had gotten a job working for a Denver-based real estate company selling lots in Vail. “They needed someone to move to Vail and finish building a house, so Byron and Vi decided to plant roots here,” Mike Brown said.

Daily file photo Construction of the Eagle Valley Trail a paved recreation path that stretches from the top of Vail Pass to the mouth of Glenwood Canyon has been a marathon endeavor in terms of timing and dollars. And, like a marathon, the final mile is proving to be the hardest to tackle. Actually, it is the final 12 miles of the project that are particularly challenging. But on Tuesday, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners agreed to a financing plan that will provide between $20 million and $22 million to bridge the Eagle Valley Trail’s final 12 miles.
