The first requires a special prosecutor from outside the County Prosecutor’s Office to handle all cases involving police officers engaging in violence with civilians.
The second requires the prosecutor’s office to review video recordings and all other relevant evidence before filing charges against someone for “resisting and obstructing” police officers.
County Prosecutor Eli Savit says they are committed to addressing these cases fully.
“I want to make sure that when we review these cases that we’ve got them right. That we’re reviewing all the evidence that could later come out,” Savit says.
Suspected drunk driver crashes into Chelsea home, police say

CHELSEA, MI – A house in Chelsea and a car parked outside of it were damaged Saturday night when a suspected drunk driver crashed into them after allegedly only having “a couple of beers,” police said.
Police and rescue crews were called at about 7:45 p.m. Dec. 19, to the 700 block of N. Main Street in Chelsea for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a building, according to the Chelsea Police Department.
Police discovered a 27-year-old Ypsilanto woman was driving her SUV along N. Main Street when she lost control and hit a parked car and a nearby home, crashing through a brick wall, police said.

ANN ARBOR, MI – A man found guilty of shooting a man for allegedly spreading sexual rumors about his girlfriend has lost his first appeal to the state high court.
The Michigan Court of Appeals issued a ruling Thursday, Dec. 17, upholding the conviction and sentencing of James Tremaine Freeman who, following a bench trial, was found guilty of second-degree murder, felony firearms and carrying a concealed weapon.
