Kate Condiffe, who has dementia, wakes up each morning with no knowledge of the pandemic By Will Tullis, ITV News Every morning of the pandemic, Kate Condiffe wakes up to a world where Covid doesn’t exist. “I don’t really know what Covid is. I expect it hasn’t been pleasant,” she says. Kate suffers from dementia. She starts each day with no knowledge of Covid. Lockdown, social distancing and the dangers of coronavirus need to be explained to her every day. “I have to tell her there’s a serious virus that could kill us,” says Kate’s partner of 40 years Cordelia Galgut, “whatever I say is gone in a nanosecond.”

Charities unite in drive to try and boost vaccine take-up

A group of 16 charities have joined forces to urge people with long-term health conditions, and their carers, to get the Covid-19 vaccine. Diabetes UK chief executive Chris Askew said “the best protection against coronavirus is to get the vaccine and take whichever vaccine you are offered”, while African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) co-founder Orin Lewis said he was backing the drive because decisions need to be made “with knowledge of the verified facts and the science behind the vaccine”. The British Heart Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support and Mencap are among those who are hoping to boost the uptake of the vaccine.
