The Lib Dems will promise more money and support for the country’s unpaid carers in their manifesto.
Plans to be announced on Friday lunchtime include calls for an extension to the Carers Allowance of £1,000 across the UK, as well as guaranteeing respite support and help into employment.
Figures show there are 14,364 unpaid carers across Dundee, Perth and Kinross and Fife, with 6,617 receiving no payment at all more than 46%.

Nicola Sturgeon is promising additional cash help for unpaid carers if the SNP is re-elected to power at Holyrood next month.
The First Minister and SNP leader hailed the “immense contribution” made by unpaid carers, particularly over the last year during the coronavirus pandemic.
The party is now proposing to make a double payment of the Carers Allowance Supplement this year – worth £460 – in recognition of the additional burden that has been placed on those who look after a loved one.
