Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt has explained the change in penalty duty and defended the costly miss of captain Samir Nurkovic in the weekend's Soweto Derby.
I think there have been more lows than highs. We have made some unbelievable mistakes in the first round, individual mistakes which I haven’t seen in my time, so we need to eradicate those mistakes, added Hunt.
“But you know, we qualified for the group stages of the Champions League which is very good. We did very well in the qualifying games. At times it [Champions League] takes away a lot of the league [momentum]. In the league we’ve been poor, we certainly need to be above 25 points, which we haven’t got yet.
The four-time league title-winning coach says he sees some encouraging signs, but still questions the mental capacity of his players.
Being in the spotlight by playing for the biggest club in the land can cause any player, especially a younger one, to lose focus and to let the fame go to his head.
When asked if this is ever a concern to him, Hunt made it clear where he stands on the matter. This club has had too many of those players, he told the media after Amakhosi s 0-0 draw against Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening. We don t want those players, if I m here they won t be here, Hunt added. We ve had too many players like that so we have got to keep their feet on the ground and work hard.
Loga Sweats Over Khama, Musona Injuries
January 14, 2021
WARRIORS coach Zdravko Logarusic will be keeping his fingers crossed for the next few weeks as star player Khama Billiat is likely to be unavailable for the crucial African Cup of Nations qualifying football games against Botswana and Zambia because of injury.
The Warriors are set to play Botswana away on March 22 before wrapping up the qualifying campaign against Zambia the following week at home.
However, Billiat, who has been the mainstay of Zimbabwe’s campaign in the last two editions, will be racing against time ahead of the decisive games after his South African club Kaizer Chiefs confirmed that he would need two months to recover after cracking his leg bone.
