In April 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Patty Monahan to be one of the five commissioners on the California Energy Commission. She serves in the Energy Commission’s Science/Engineering position and is the lead commissioner on transportation. She has dedicated her career toward advancing clean energy technologies and cutting harmful pollution, with a focus on equity. Before joining the Energy Commission, she served as the transportation program director at the Energy Foundation, where she guided campaigns across the United States that advanced electric transportation and more efficient vehicles. She worked for the Union of Concerned Scientists, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and several energy-related consulting firms.
New adult program to launch in Blue Ridge
Dr. Westina Matthews, Rosann Kent and Reverend Dr. Cynthia Park will be the inaugural speakers for the Personal Enrichment, Action and Knowledge Series (PEAKS). UNG s Institute for Healthy Aging, College of Education s Appalachian Studies Center and the Blue Ridge Campus created PEAKS, which is a monthly program of engaging and seasonally connected presentations designed to meet the needs of the region s rapidly growing older adult community. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, some 45% of Fannin County s population is 55 and older. Projections from the Governor s Office of Planning and Budget put that number at 55% by 2030.

Sustaining strong bonds between military and civilian leaders is very important to Col. Charles Bell, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hunter Liggett/Parks Reserve Forces Training Area Commander. Bell hosts quarterly Community Relations Working Group meetings with leaders from state to city level, FHL, Camp Roberts and Presidio of Monterey.
During the December 10, 2020, meeting, military leaders briefed King City Mayor Mike LeBarre, San Miguel General Manager Rob Roberson and Paso Robles Community Development Director Warren Frace on their COVID-19 posture and protocols. They also discussed issues such as coordination with local airports to support potential mass civil support operations, the transportation of training units from airports to installations, and affordable housing. The Office of the California Surgeon General released its first report on addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and toxic stress. The report, Roadmap for Resilience: The California Surgeon General’s Report on Adverse Childhood Experiences, Toxic Stress, and Health, provides a cross-sector blueprint for communities, states, and nations to recognize and treat persistent, harmful, and expensive societal health challenges.
The report provides response models that can be tailored to fit the unique needs of different communities, especially populations that are affected disproportionately by ACEs and toxic stress. These populations – including communities that are racially marginalized, high school non-graduates, in lower income brackets, uninsured, involved in the justice system, women, and LGBTQIA+ individuals – are more likely to experience the leading causes of death in America due to exposure to ACEs and toxic stress.

SAVANNAH, Ga., December 9, 2020 Georgia Southern University has named five distinguished Georgians to serve as speakers for Georgia Southern University’s Fall 2020 Commencement ceremonies on Dec. 13, 16 and 17.
Georgia Southern University will hold four commencement ceremonies for undergraduate students and one ceremony for graduate students from each of the University’s 10 colleges.
The commencement ceremony on Dec. 13 will be held at the Savannah Convention Center at 2 p.m. for undergraduates from each of the University’s three campuses who prefer to attend the ceremony in Savannah. The remaining four ceremonies will take place at Allen E. Paulson Stadium on the Statesboro Ca
