Massachusetts to receive $1 3 billion for schools, colleges in stimulus deal, but funding for landmark education law remains uncertain

Massachusetts to receive $1.3 billion for schools, colleges in stimulus deal, but funding for landmark education law remains uncertain Updated Dec 29, 2020; Massachusetts is expected to gain more than $1.3 billion in federal education funding after President Donald Trump signed into law a stimulus and government spending package. But don’t expect that money to fill the hole in Chapter 70 funding the state left by not meeting the funding mandate under the Student Opportunity Act. The federal aid will cover a mix of improvement for K-12 schools and colleges in Massachusetts, as well as some money for the governor to spend at his discretion. The $814.9 million in K-12 schools funding is supposed to be doled out by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, but will be based on federal Title I formula.
