Governor promulgates ordinance in this regard
Unqualified employees of self-financing colleges in the State will be required to meet the eligibility norms laid down by regulatory bodies such as the University Grants Commission (UGC) within a stipulated time-frame decided by the government.
The requirement has come into effect with the promulgation of the Kerala Self-Financing College Teaching and Non-Teaching Employees (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Ordinance, 2021, by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Sunday. While the law guaranteed service conditions of employees in self-financing colleges, it also establishes norms for appointments.
The law also required educational agencies (or managements) of self-financing colleges to fix working days and working hours and provide public holidays, casual leave and maternity leave for teaching and non-teaching employees on par with government and aided colleges. UDF-backed Syndicate member urges Governor to seek report from Vice Chancellor A United Democratic Front-backed Syndicate member has urged the Governor to seek a report from the Calicut University Vice Chancellor on the execution of reservation norms for differently abled persons in the appointment of faculty members of various departments.
In a letter to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, who is also the Chancellor of the university, P. Rasheed Ahammed said four backlog vacancies existed as per university records for the differently abled in the cadre of assistant professors. The backlog in the posts of associate professor and professor had not been identified as yet.
