Cuomo Announces Impaired Driving Crackdown
State and local law enforcement throughout the state will be stepping up patrols to crackdown on drunk and impaired driving during the holiday season.
The crackdown is part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative designed to reduce alcohol and drug-related crashes.
It’s sponsored by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. New York has zero tolerance for impaired driving, Governor Cuomo said. Motorists who drive under the influence not only put themselves at risk, but endanger the lives of everyone else. Be safe and smart this holiday season, whether you re on the road or not. If you must travel, drive sober or have a plan in place to get where you re going safely.
Dec 16, 2020 MALONE Franklin County District Attorney Craig Carriero announced Tuesday that Franklin County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving. The law enforcement community across New York state will take to the roads in an effort to stop impaired driving, prevent injuries and save lives during the STOP-DWI crackdown from Dec. 17 to Jan. 1. New York State Police, county sheriffs and municipal law enforcement agencies will be out in force. While STOP-DWI efforts across New York have led to significant reductions in the numbers of alcohol- and drug-related fatalities, many lives are still being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. In December 2016, impaired driving crashes resulted in 781 deaths. Over a five-year period, that total is almost 4,000 deaths.
