COVID-19 proved 2020 was truly the Year of the Nurse

COVID-19 proved 2020 was truly the Year of the Nurse New Mexico Lt. Governor Howie Morales When the World Health Organization (WHO) named 2020 as the ‘International Year of the Nurse’, it had no inkling of how true that would become. The designation was meant to honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, a Victorian-era reformer of hospital care, and to raise recognition of the nursing profession.  Then the Coronavirus pandemic struck.  As the year draws to a close, we truly have learned how essential nurses are to everyone’s lives in 2020.  We must not forget it. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 infection across the U.S. have soared daily, setting new records for weeks on end.  More than 3,000 Americans are dying every day from the virus, and infected patients are stretching U.S. medical facilities to the breaking point.  In New Mexico the trends are no different.  ICU beds are full across the state.

A special election would pick Haaland s replacement | The NM Political Report

December 18, 2020 Almost as soon as the news came out that President-elect Joe Biden chose Deb Haaland as his choice to head the Interior Department, attention turned to what would happen to the 1st Congressional District seat. If Haaland is confirmed to the cabinet-level position and resigns from the U.S. House, it would trigger a special election for her replacement.  At the time of a vacancy, the Secretary of State would order a special election to be held between 77 and 91 days after the vacancy occurs. There would be no primary, instead the state central committees of the major parties would choose their nominees.
