(Providence, RI) The Providence Journal reports Governor Raimondo plans to remain in office as governor during the Senate confirmation process for her nomination to become the commerce secretary. President-elect Joe Biden announced her as his choice yesterday. Lieutenant Governor Dan McKee says he and Raimondo have discussed the importance of a smooth transition.

PROVIDENCE â Governor Gina M. Raimondo on Thursday night made it official, acknowledging that she said âyesâ when President-elect Joe Biden asked her to be his Secretary of Commerce.
âRhode Island may be small, but our economy is mighty on the strength of our small businesses and innovative technologies,â Raimondo tweeted. âAs Secretary of Commerce, I will harness that same American ingenuity to create good-paying union jobs and build our economy back better than ever before.â
