New Peoria County COVID-19 cases more than double; hospitalizations remain low

Midwest Communications PEORIA, Ill. The Peoria City/County Health Department Monday reported 116 new cases of COVID-19 in the county in the last week, an average of more than 16 per day. Just one week ago, the average of new cases per day was just under seven. One new death was reported in the county due to the virus, bringing the total to 375 since the pandemic began. Six deaths were attributed to Peoria County as four men died, one each in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s. The men in their 40s, 50s, and 60s were reported to have comobidities. A Peoria female in her 30s with comorbidities also died, as did a female in her 60s. Tazewell County reported a male in his 60s succumbed to the virus, while a Woodford County female in her 70s died. Overall, the tri-county reported a total of 172 new cases. Peoria County reported 103, Tazewell County reported 54, and Woodford County reported just 15.

Four of the deaths from the long weekend occurred in Peoria County as a male in his 60s, a female in her 40s, a male in his 60s and a male in his 70s all succumbed to the virus. Tazewell County accounted for the other area death, as a female in her 40s died from the virus. 795 new cases were reported in the tri-county between Thursday and Monday. 490 new cases came up in Peoria County, 236 new cases are in Tazewell County, and 69 new cases came up in Woodford County.
