Lack of oversight plagues COVID-19 vaccine deployment in Nevada

Steve Sisolak’s administration released a detailed playbook directing that shots go first to those who need them most. As state and local agencies work feverishly to vaccinate Nevadans, however, it turns out that no one is actually monitoring whether that same playbook is being followed.

UPDATE: February 9, 2021 The Brazos County Health District confirmed three more residents have died of COVID-19. All three patients were hospitalized in their 60s and included one man and two women. We have now lost 184 Brazos County residents to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health district reported there are 40 new known cases of COVID-19 in the county and the total number of active cases are at 1,358. As of February 7, 41 Brazos County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19 and the total ICU hospital bed occupancy rate is down to 106%. The total hospital bed occupancy rate is 81%. UPDATE: February 8, 2021 The Brazos County Health District reported there are 84 new known cases of COVID-19 in the county and the total number of active cases is 1,424. As of February 7, 41 Brazos County residents are hospitalized with COVID-19 and the total ICU hospital bed occupancy rate is 133%. The total hospital bed occupancy rate is 87%.

Please consider subscribing to the RGJ to support our journalism.  The number of new COVID-19 cases in Washoe County is on the decline, according to the Washoe County Health District. The 7-day moving average of new cases hit 119.4 on Wednesday after reaching as low as 109.4 on Tuesday, the lowest weekly average of new cases since Oct. 16. This is about the lowest we ve been since about mid-October, Washoe County Health District officer Kevin Dick said. Which is really when we had the sharp increase and surge that resulted in over 500 new cases per day at our peak with the 7-day moving average.
