MONITOR TWP, MI Police have released the name of a Bay County man who recently fell to his death at Michigan Sugar Co. as state officials announce they have launched an inquiry.
Derrin P. Forgette, 53, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the sugar company located at 2600 S. Euclid Ave. in Monitor Township.
Bay County Sheriff’s Lt. James Chlebowski previously said that deputies arrived at the scene around 7:49 p.m. after receiving a report of an employee who had suffered a work-related death.

BAY CITY, MI Officials are investigating how a man fell to his death Tuesday at Michigan Sugar Co. near Bay City.
About 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15, Bay County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a work-related death at the facility located at 2600 S. Euclid Ave. in Monitor Township. They arrived to find a 53-year-old male employee who had died, said Sheriff’s Lt. James Chlebowski.
The man had been part of a crew working in an elevated area cleaning a chute, Chlebowski said. He fell about 120 feet to a dual-screw system used to grind sugar beets, the lieutenant added.
