J&J Vaccine Doses on Stand-by as County Awaits Guidance
The CDC recently recommended the use of the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine to resume after a temporary pause nationwide.
Local health leaders say they are waiting for guidance from the state before administering the refrigerated J&J doses already on hand before the pause.

County leaders say the pause of the J&J COVID-19 vaccine should not be a deterrent for residents who have not gotten vaccinated yet, as Moderna and Pfizer doses are other available options.

Elrich: ‘We Don’t Have Any Unused Vaccines Lying Around’
Montgomery County has received 19,800 doses of the Moderna vaccine – and administered 14,952 of those as of Thursday. Local health officials say all of the allotted doses are expected to be administered by Friday, Jan. 15.
The county is currently in Phase 1A for vaccine distribution, consisting of frontline health care workers, staff and residents of nursing homes, and first responders. Montgomery County Deputy Health Officer Dr. James Bridgers says the county will likely continue through Phase 1 for the next couple of weeks, depending on the number of doses allotted from the state.
