Baltimore County, Maryland and Minneapolis, Minnesota joined some of America’s biggest cities in cutting fees charged by food delivery services like UberEats and Grubhub.
Both areas instituted regulations in the last week that would cap fees charged by third-party delivery services at 15% of the cost of the food purchase. Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski Jr. said in a signing statement that his executive order would “provide a little bit of support to a sector of our economy that has been battered and bruised by this pandemic.” His executive order, signed Dec. 22, will last until the end of Baltimore County’s state of emergency. Olszewski first declared a state of emergency in Baltimore County on March 13.

Updated: 1:33 PM EST Dec 21, 2020 Baltimore County is taking steps to expand internet access to those in need amid the COVID-19 pandemic.To help support families impacted by the pandemic, Baltimore County is using coronavirus relief act funding to sponsor six months of Comcast s Internet Essentials service to all existing program participants across the county, representing nearly 11,000 households. These households are now receiving service at no-cost for six months.The county said Comcast s Internet Essentials program offers a router and high-speed access to qualifying low-income households for $9.95 per month.In addition, the county has expanded public Wi-Fi availability. All 19 branches of the Baltimore County Public Library and all 28 Recreation and Parks locations now have high-speed external public Wi-Fi.Individuals can now access Wi-Fi outside the facilities in addition to inside.
