Suffolk County will provide $10 million towards developing inclusive housing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Distribution of the money, $2.5 million a year for four years, will be guided by a group of stakeholders who will review the county’s current inclusive housing pilot program and provide recommendations and updates to the current guidelines.

In the wake of a national spike in gun violence, Suffolk County police will partner with local businesses to connect their security cameras to the county s police crime center to use during emergencies and identify active shooters.
The Sharing to Help Access Remote Entry, or S.H.A.R.E. initiative, was launched for county schools in Sept. 2019 to allow police access to close circuit television cameras in the event of a school shooter. The expansion would now allow the police to access cameras in supermarkets, shopping centers and big box stores.
“We have seen shootings in our schools, in movie theaters, in shopping centers and supermarkets, everywhere across this country,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said. “It’s one of the things that keeps me up at night, as a County Executive that we can have one of these shootings here in our community, on Long Island.”
The so-called SALT cap faced immediate opposition in the highly taxed downstate region when it was passed as part of tax reform in 2017, and elected officials are staying on message, trying to rally other counties in the state to join the chorus.
“If you fail to talk about it, if you’re not making any noise about it, you get lost in the shuffle,” Bellone said.
President Joe Biden didn t put a repeal into his infrastructure plan and White House but would be willing to discuss eliminating the cap, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Thursday. There d have to be a discussion about how that would be paid for, what would be taken out instead, Psaki said. And then there s sort of a discussion of what s most important to achieving our overarching objectives.
