Events Welcome Back Big Crowds as COVID-19 Cases Dip

“A lot of people have been getting into the hobby because of COVID-19. Everyone’s stuck at home watching TikToks,” vendor Hebreb Morales said. Sneaker Con was just one of several events to welcome back big crowds since COVID-19 cases started to drop. Dallas County averaged 156 daily cases this week, a decrease from last week when the county averaged 179 cases per day. Dr. Mark Casanova, immediate past president of the Dallas County Medical Society, said events can mark an encouraging return to pre-COVID life.   “If it’s a Rangers game, if it’s an in-person family gathering, or just getting that cold margarita and warm chips and salsa at your favorite Tex Mex restaurant, get vaccinated. Help us all get back to normalcy,” Casanova said.

Texas leaders respond to Gov Greg Abbott s recent actions

There’s scant evidence that money in people’s pockets is holding our economy back. This is partisan politics at its worst. Joaquin Castro (@JoaquinCastrotx) May 18, 2021 The announcements took the Twittersphere by storm, with many Texas Democrat leaders and abortion rights advocates disagreeing with Abbott s actions. Dyana Limon-Mercado, executive director of Planned Parenthood Texas Votes, the political arm of Planned Parenthood affiliates in Texas, told the Texas Tribune a six-week ban essentially bans abortion outright. On the federal unemployment issue, San Antonio Congressman Joaquin Castro tweeted Abbott s action is partisan politics at its worst.   Texas unemployment rate is still double its pre-COVID level, Castro wrote in a tweet Monday. @GovAbbott s rejection of the $300 weekly federal jobless aid will hurt over 300,000 Texans. There s scant evidence that money in people s pockets is holding our economy back.

By Alex Macon Published in FrontBurner May 20, 2021 11:07 am School and city officials in Dallas have changed mask requirements into mask suggestions this week following Gov. Greg Abbott’s order ending any such mandates issued by schools, cities, and counties.
