MURRAY The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an all-time high in mental health issues across the world and a collaboration of health care partners in Utah aims to help.
Intermountain Healthcare has joined with the Utah Department of Human Services, Latino Behavioral Health and the Utah Pride Center to address the COVID-related mental health crisis by connecting the partner organizations to community contributions totaling $67 million to improve access to mental healthcare for marginalized people in Utah.
Utah in particular has struggled to address mental health even before the pandemic, ranking last in the nation for mental health access and sixth highest in the nation for suicide deaths per capita in 2019.

EAGLE MOUNTAIN A man is in serious condition and a Saratoga Springs police officer has serious lacerations on his finger after a critical incident in Eagle Mountain, officials say.
Police received a call about a carbon monoxide-related medical problem shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, Utah County Sheriff s Sgt. Spencer Cannon said.
The Utah County Sheriff s Office and Saratoga Springs Police Department responded and found a suicidal man in a garage attempting to self-harm with carbon monoxide, Canon said. The man barricaded himself in a room of the house with a knife and self-inflicted a number of injuries.

In southern Utah, one company has looked to one of the biggest ways teens communicate text messaging.
About four years ago, several suicides happened in area high schools, said Iuri Melo, a licensed clinical social worker and therapist in St. George. His friend, a principal, reached out to him for ideas to deal with the tremendous pressure he faced trying to respond to tragedy in his school. And I want to do more. I have to be more proactive, I have to be more preventative, Melo recalled the principal telling him.
The therapist and others began brainstorming ways to reach students who need help.
