Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday morning that the new guidance was expected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the state would also issue its own guidance. We do all expect a gradual loosening of these restrictions as we go forward, Leung said early Tuesday.

The new guidance was released shortly after Leung spoke.

The State of Wyoming approved a mask variance for all Cody schools – but students, staff, and visitors still need to wear masks in certain spaces and places.
Cody students and teachers can now choose to go to class without a mask. Park County Public Health Officer Dr. Aaron Billin announced the variance, requested by the Park County School District #6 Board of Trustees, was approved by the state on Friday, April 23.
“The School Board of Park County School District #6 has requested an exception to State Public Health Order #1 that allows PCSD #6 to make mask-wearing in school OPTIONAL. At the request of the School Board – this applies to mask use during the school day in school buildings and classroom settings and not to sporting events and other activities such as band concerts.”

Before the pandemic hit, not many people knew each county had a public health officer or what they did exactly. Natrona County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Dowell has been in that position since the late 1990s. I would oversee sexually transmitted disease clinics. I would do immigration physicals. We would look at reproductive planning, these kinds of things, Dowel described.
But all of that changed when the pandemic hit. Public health employees all of the sudden were on the front line of the fight. It was endless phone calls, endless hours, endless types of stress, and huge policy making decisions right on the fly, said Dowell. And having to do all the meetings with public officials, trying to convince people that the public health policies were the way to go for our county, and having to be in the media a lot, and having my life threatened.

“Vaccinating as many people as we can as quickly as we can is one of the best ways to end this pandemic,” said County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “Safe, free, and effective COVID-19 vaccines are now available to anyone age 16 and up.”
The county has closed its own vaccine registry at recoverslo.org and anyone still in the registry received the opportunity today to make a first-dose appointment for next week. The company has purchased land from the Port of Camas-Washougal, where it will build two manufacturing buildings over the next five to 10 years, according to the Camas-Washougal Post-Record.
Construction of restaurants and retail outlets typically comprise the bulk of local economic news, in part because such amenities are highly visible and are accessible to the public.
