In Tompkins County, the person who tested positive for the UK variant quarantined immediately after returning from travel, and was placed into isolation after the positive test result. Contact tracing was conducted and no close contacts were identified. Officials say it’s a more contagious version of the virus, which had its first reported case in New York State on January 4th in Saratoga Springs. Health officials say although this strain is more contagious, it isn’t more dangerous and the COVID-19 vaccine is still effective.
