ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A large-scale vaccination clinic to be held at SUNY Cortland.
Cortland County Officials announced the location as a partnership between its health department, Guthrie Medical and SUNY Cortland. This comes on the heels of New York expanding vaccination eligibility to phase 1B. An official opening date for the location is yet to be determined. However, county officials say it could open as soon as next week.
The health department says the number of individuals who can be vaccinated is dependent upon the amount of vaccine allocated by New York State.
Just like the rest of New York State, Steuben County is currently in Phase 1A for administering the COVID-19 vaccine. Steuben County Public Health Director, Darlene Smith tells WENY News, she beli.

Vaccine for the virus that causes COVID-19 is arriving in the area at a time when people appear to have taken actions to slow the spread of the virus following surges over the summer and a massive surge in the fall. But officials are warning people that it may be months before the vaccine is available for much of the general population, and they need to continue following recommendations - wearing masks in public settings, avoiding large gatherings, staying home as much as possible, regularly washing their hands, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and staying home if they are ill - to keep the spread down.
Advertisement: Amid confirmation of a more contagious strain of COVID-19 that originated in the UK being identified in Colorado, Cullen said Arizona health officials are actively looking for the coronavirus variant and have not found any cases in the state, although “that could change quite rapidly,” she said. Cullen said the county’s hospital beds and ICU capacity remains “very limited,” and many facilities are relying on the Arizona Surge Line to transfer patients based on their necessary level of care. As the virus continues to spread throughout the state, as of Dec. 29 more than 10,000 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the county through Banner, TMC and other health care facilities, according to the advisory.
