Federal authorities placed a detainer on an Ecuadoran national living in Hackensack after local authorities jailed him on charges of sexually assaulting a pre-teen.
Nelson Fabian Padilla, a 26-year-old pizzeria worker, remained held Monday in the Passaic County Jail following his arrest three days earlier on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by contact and child endangerment, records show.
ICE authorities issued a detainer so that Padilla can be brought before a U.S. District Court judge in Newark for a hearing on his immigration status if a local judge releases him under New Jersey’s bail reform law.
N.J. man charged with downloading 1,000 child porn images, prosecutor says

A Bergen County man was arrested last week after investigators said he downloaded more than 1,000 images of child pornography.
Matthew Heitman, 33, of Hackensack was arrested Thursday after detectives executed a search warrant at his home during the course of a months-long investigation, authorities said.
“The investigation revealed that Heitman used the internet to view, download, and possess more than 1,000 digital files and distributed multiple digital files depicting (child pornography),” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a statement.
Heitman was charged with second-degree possession and distribution of child pornography and held at the Bergen County Jail pending a court hearing, Musella said.

Two men, one from Ontario, put little effort into concealing US$1 million ($1.2 million) worth of weed when they tossed 13 oversized duffel bags containing the drug into the back of their vehicle and in plain view for investigating officers.
As a result of an earlier investigation, detectives with the Narcotics Task Force of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office stopped driver Shawn Porter of Etobicoke and passenger Jeremy Windoloski of Hogansburg, N.Y. on Apr. 27 for suspected drug offences. Porter, 34, and Windoloski, 23, were travelling on Interstate 80 East in Lodi, N.J. when the traffic stop was initiated, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Detectives seized a whopping 360 pounds of pot that they said were in stuffed into more than a dozen duffle bags packed into an SUV stopped on Route 80.
Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said members of his Narcotics Task Force stopped a Ford Expedition driven by a Canadian citizen on the interstate in Lodi on Tuesday.
“When the windows to the vehicle were rolled down, detectives observed the entire rear portion of the vehicle to be filled with thirteen oversized duffle bags” of marijuana worth an estimated $1 million, Musella said.
The driver, Shawn R. Porter, 34, of Etobicoke, Canada was taken into custody, as well his passenger, 23-year-old limo driver Jeremy M. Windoloski, of Hogansburg, NY, who injured a detective’s arm while resisting arrest, the prosecutor said.
